The Modelling of Autogenous Grinding - ScienceDirect

In autogenous grinding Digre (1969) discusses three mechanisms of grind- ing namely abrasion, attrition and impact. Stanley (1972,1974,1975) identifies only two modes of grind- ing. The first is abrasion and the second is disintegration due to crack propagation. This groups the attri- tion and impact modes of Digre.

Autogenous Grinding Information

Autogenous grinding has two advantages, (1) it reduces metal wear and (2) eliminates secondary and tertiary crushing stages. Thus it offers a savings in capital and operating costs. Autogenous mills are available for both wet and dry grinding. The diameter of autogenous mills is normally two to three times the length.

Grinding Process Autogenous

Autogenous grinding is a process of grinding ore in a rotating cylinder, using large pieces of the same ore. Autogenous mills operate mechanically like ball mills however, the media used for grinding differs. Simply put, in autogenous grinding, the media is also the material that is being ground, whereas in other milling methods steel or ...

If semi-autogenous grinding is indicated, the source for, and cost of, obtaining high quality balls in the 100 mm to 125 mm size range should be reviewed. The grinding balls used in semi-autogenous mills must be of top quality so that they will not break from the impact forces encountered in primary semi-autogenous mills.

Autogenous and Semi-Autogenous Mills - ScienceDirect

Grinding mills in which comminution takes place without grinding aids are known as autogenous grinding (AG) mills or fully autogenous grinding (FAG) mills. These mills use large lumps of rock as the grinding media. Mills that use intermediate size rock or pebbles as a grinding medium are also autogenous mills but are known as pebble mills.

In spite of the important advances in modelling and simulation of autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding made in recent decades (Napier-Munn et al., 1996, Morrell, 2004), risks exist in designing a circuit adopting AG/SAG mills for low-grade itabirite iron ores from bench-scale information. This is especially due to the multi-component nature ...
